SAINT-PETERSBURG, on 20.02.2014 was held the keel laying ceremony of a large diesel-electric submarine named “Krasnodar” of project 636.3.

The solemn ceremony was attended by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Naval Fleet Rear Admiral Victor Bursuk and Vice President of JSC “United Shipbuilding Corporation” Valery Bindas.

“Laying of submarine “Krasnodar” is really a special event not only for the shipyard, but also for all Russian Navy, all the country, – noted Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Victor Bursuk. At present conventional submarines are in high demand in all our fleets and in development of the class of the submarines we stake on the famous enterprise – Admiralteiskie Verfi”.

Mr Alexander Buzakov has emphasized in his address that the keel laying opens an anniversary year for the enterprise. “This is the first momentous event in this year which will be very intensive for our enterprise. The shipyard is to hand over five submarines, three of which are provided for Naval Fleet of Russia. I am sure that submarine “Krasnodar” will be also constructed in time and with the quality traditionally assured by the shipyard”.

“The event may be named especially significant and momentous because today is being laid the fourth submarine”, – emphasized First Deputy General Director of CDB ME “Rubin” Valentine Frolov. “This is a confirmation that the new modernised series has been implemented which is a guarantee of further technological development of construction of up-to-date submarines of future generation”.

Submarine “Krasnodar” of project 636 is the fourth in the series, which is under construction by JSC “Admiralteiskie Verfi” for Navy of Russian Federation.

The pilot submarine of the series named “Novorossijsk” was launched in November of 2013 and today is being prepared for the sea trials. The second submarine “Rostov-on-Don” was laid in November of 2011 and the third one named “Stary Oskol” in August of 2012.   All three submarines will be handed over to the Naval Fleet of Russia in 2014.

Three next submarines of the series will be handed to the customer by the end of 2016. The submarines of modified project 636 have a higher combat effectiveness (compared to the previous projects).

The optimum balance of acoustic discretion and target acquisition range, the latest inertial navigation complex, up-to-date computerised information control system, powerful quick-acting torpedo and missile systems provide global priority of the submarines of this class in field of conventional submarine shipbuilding.
