A SUBMARINE WAS LAUNCHED AT JSC «ADMIRALTY SHIPYARDS» FOR THE RUSSIAN NAVY

St.-Petersburg, 26.06.2014. A launching ceremony of large diesel electric submarine “Rostov-on-Don” took place at JSC “Admiralty Shipyards”. The submarine of project 636.3 is the second one in the series under construction at “Admiralty Shipyards” for the Navy of the Russian Federation. It was laid down in November, 2011.

Acting Governor of Saint-Petersburg Mr Georgy Poltavchenko, Commander-in-Chief Deputy of the Russian Navy Vice-Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov, Vice-president of JSC “USC” Mr Igor Ponomarev and other distinguished guests have taken part in solemn ceremony.

Mr Alexander Buzakov said that the launch of “Rostov-on-Don” was a milestone event for all employees of the shipyard. “It is symbolic that this production event occurs in the year of the 310th anniversary of “Admiralty Shipyards”. Our shipyards found by  Peter the First have always been a ground  for building ships for the country’s fleet. Today we can rightfully say that the enterprise maintains the best traditions of domestic shipbuilders with honour”.

Mr Georgy Poltavchenko called the submarine launch an important event.  “New  diesel electric submarine “Rostov-on-Don” is leaving for high seas. I think we should be proud of such wonderful modern submarines under construction in our city today. I am assured that the 6000 employees of  Admiralty Shipyards will fulfil the state order with honour. And there will be many nice pages of the glorious Russian Navy in the shipbook “Rostov-on-Don”.

Petr Stolypin has told in his time: “Launching of each naval ship is a national festival, a national celebration. It is a return to sea of the national forces accumulated on land, national energy”. It seems to me these words are very suitable for today’s event, — emphasized Vice-Admiral Fedotenkov. — On behalf of the Naval high command and  Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Federation Navy Admiral Victor Chirkov I want to congratulate all attendees on this national festival, national celebration”.

Building a series of six submarines of modified project 636 began the implementation of the long-term plan of the Defence Ministry of Russia on restoration of combat readiness of the Black Sea fleet and improvement program of diesel electric submarines for the Russian Navy.

All ships of the series are named in honour of the cities with honorary title “Hero city” or “City of military glory”. Today all six ships of the series are under construction. The first submarine — “Novorossisk” launched in November 2013 is at the final stage of sea trials. The third ship — “Stary Oskol” is at the stage of preparation for the launch. In February 2014 the fourth ship — “Krasnodar” was laid down. In October two more submarines – «Great Novgorod» and “Kolpino” will be laid down.
