SAINT-PETERSBURG, 31/05/2016. At JSC “Admiralteiskie Verfi” (it is a part of United Shipbuilding Company or USC) a launching ceremony of big diesel-electric submarine “Kolpino” for the Russian Federation Navy took place. The solemn ceremony was attended by vice admiral Aleksandr Fedotenkov, Deputy Commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, Georgi Poltavchenko, governor of St.-Petersburg and Aleksey Rakhmanov, president of JSC “USC”.

“I do remember the keel-laying ceremony of this ship which was held on October 30,  2014, when our city celebrated the shipbuilder day for the 1st time”, – Georgi Poltavchenko, governor of the city, emphasized. And today the yard workers have proved once again their ability to build such splendid ships. I’m sure that the last ship in the series will be worthy of Kolpino’s name as “City of Military Glory”, which has been the frontline of Saint Petersburg throughout its history. I would like to greet the personnel of the yard with the birth and launching of the new ship and I wish new labor achievements to the personnel!

The launching of submarine “Kolpino” was worded as national triumph by vice-admiral Aleksandr Fedotenkov, Deputy of Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy:  “Admiralteiskie verfi”, has proved once again that it has been awarded with the title of the flagship of national shipbuilding with good reason”, – Aleksandr Fedotenkov said. – “Your ships have always been handed over in time and with a high quality which is required for the Navy. It’s not by chance that it has been decided upon building of a new series of conventional submarines (this time for the Pacific Fleet) based upon you labor achievements and your contribution in building up the combat readiness of the Navy. Good luck and new labor achievements!”

Submarine “Kolpino” is the last one in the series of 6 ships, built at “Admiralteiskie verfi” for the RF Navy. The ship was laid down in October 2014. Its building became a further implementation of long-term plans of Russia’s Ministry of Defense to restore combat effectiveness of the Black sea Fleet and of the program to update diesel-electric submarine for the Russian Navy. All six submarines of the series, being under construction at JSC “Admiralteiskie verfi”, are named in honor of cities, having titles of honor “Hero City” and “City of Military Glory”.

The two first submarines of the series — “Novorissiysk” and “Rostov-on-Don” – joined the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation Navy in August and December of 2014, the 3rd and the 4th submarines – “Stariy Oscol” and “Krasnodar” – were delivered to the Russian Federation Navy in July and November of 2015. The 5th ship of the series “Velikiy Novgorod” is preparing for the shipbuilders’ sea trials.

The submarines of updated 636 project have enhanced (compared with previous projects) combat effectiveness. Optimal combination of stealth capabilities and target detection range, the newest inertial navigation system, modern automated information management system, powerful high-speed torpedo and missiles equipment provide for the global priority of this class ships in the area of conventional (non-atomic) submarine shipbuilding. JSC “Admiralteiskie verfi” is an undoubted leader in construction of this class submarines and since 1983 it has been successfully exporting them.

In 1932, series production of submarines at “Admiralteiskie verfi” started, and, by now,  more than 400 submarines and deep-water vehicles of various projects have been built over this period.
