JSC “ADMIRALTY SHIPYARDS” IN PRESENCE OF VLADIMIR PUTIN LAID DOWN TWO SUBMARINES FOR PACIFIC FLEET OF RUSSIA

23.08.2021

JSC “Admiralty Shipyards” held a keel-laying ceremony for two large diesel-electric submarines of project 656.3 to be built for the Russian Navy. Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, presided over the ceremonial event.

“Mozhaysk” and “Yakutsk” respectively are the fifth and sixth submarines of this series that JSC “Admiralty Shipyards” is building for Pacific Fleet of the country.

The President of the Russian Federation started out by congratulating all shipbuilders and naval mariners with this milestone in development of the Russian Navy – a prolongation of construction of modern ships.

“I would like to draw your attention to the fact”, noted Vladimir Putin, “that these boats will be outfitted with advanced high-precision weaponry and state-of-the-art means of control and communication. A strong and independent Russia needs a powerful and balanced naval forces. Today the Navy plays a key role in ensuring our country’s security, safely guards Russia’s national interests, and makes a sizeable contribution to strengthening of our strategic influence and promoting international stability. We will continue to develop the naval potential of Russia, improve naval infrastructure, fit out our warships with most advanced armaments and equipment, pursue challenging combat training tasks both during drills and in distant training voyages, and demonstrate the Russian flag in strategically important areas of the World ocean.”

In his speech addressed to President Putin, Director General of JSC “Admiralty Shipyards” Alexander Buzakov noted that the Yard has been building ships for the Russian Navy for over 300 years.

“The submarines that left the Yard’s building ways, honorably do their combat duties in all parts of the World Ocean”, said Alexander Buzakov. The contract for construction of the series was signed in September of 2016 owing to prolongation of realization of the long-term plan of Russian Ministry of Defense for combat readiness recovery of Russian naval fleet and improvement program of diesel-electric submarines. Currently the construction of the series is carried out very actively and near completion.

Currently, on “Ufa”, the fourth submarine in the Pacific series, they are working on outer hull, pipelines and electrical installation and acoustic shielding. The third submarine in the series 'Magadan’ is completing its state acceptance trials program. The specialists of the enterprise will test operation of all shipboard devices, mechanisms and equipment, including sonar and navigation systems. The trials program also schedules deep-diving and submerged steering control testing at various running depths. After completion of the state acceptance trials program, submarine “Magadan” will return to the Yard to undergo maintenance inspection and surface finishing.

“Volkhov” - the second submarine in the series on October 24, 2020 became organic to Pacific fleet. The first submarine “Petropavlovsk–Кamchatsky” was handed over to Russian Navy on November 25, 2019.

The submarines of improved project 636 have a higher (as compared to previous projects) combat effectiveness. The conventional submarines of this class maintain a top position in the world thanks to their well-matched acoustic discretion and target detection capabilities, a cutting-edge inertial navigation system, a modern automated data management system, and powerful rapid-response torpedo and missile armaments. JSC “Admiralty Shipyards” is an absolute leader in construction of the submarines of this class, and provides warranty and after-sale maintenance on them.
