DIESEL-ELECTRIC ICE-BREAKER OF PROJECT 21180 «ILYA MUROMETS»

Diesel-electric ice-breaker - multipurpose one –deck vessel is designed for icebreaker support of deployment and expansion of naval forces in ice conditions; independent convoying of ships and vessels; towing of vessels and other floating structures in ice conditions and clear water; fire-fighting on emergency objects; containment of spills and gathering of oil products; landing of helicopter (without basing and refueling operation); transportation of containers in open area of upper deck, including refrigerated containers with relevant power supply, and also other deck and hold cargoes.

The ice-breaker of project 21180 – is a new generation vessel with new principles of electric movements and up-to-date power plant. High manoeuvrability of the ice-breaker is provided by full revolving mechanical twin –screw pod drives and a bow thruster, which increase the nautical characteristics of the vessel during operation in ice conditions.

The control system of the vessel has a high degree of automation and integration. The ice-breaker is equipped with advanced navigational complex with electronic navigational data mapping system. The vessel is constructed with observance of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).
