20.12.2023

JSC “Admiralty Shipyards” celebrated the thirty-five anniversary since laying of submarine “Obninsk" of project 671 RTM.

"Obninsk" is the twelfth submarine in a series of thirteen ships of project 671 RTM "Schuka" laid down in December 1988, launched in August 1989, handed over to the Russian Navy in May 1990 under name "K-138". In 2000, the submarine received the name "Obninsk" in connection with establishment of patronage over it by the administration of the city of Obninsk. Currently, for already 33 years, the submarine continues to serve for the Northern Fleet.

Also, since 1993, for already 30 years now, the thirteenth submarine of project 671 RTM "Schuka” – "Tambov" – continues to serve for the Northern Fleet. The submarine was laid down at the Admiralty Shipyards in January 1991, and was handed over to the Northern Fleet under name "B-448" in February 1993. In March 1995, the submarine received name "Tambov” in honor of the 360th anniversary of this ancient Russian city.

The submarines of project 671 RTM "Schuka” were the backbone of the USSR multi-mission nuclear submarine fleet in the 1980s and early 1990s. These nuclear submarines of new project 671 modification were armed with the latest versions of electronic weapons, navigation systems, combat information and control systems, automated radio communications complexes, reconnaissance complex equipment, as well as with options aimed at reducing unmasking fields of the submarine. In total, 31 submarines of project 671 with modifications were built at the Admiralty Shipyards.
