ADMIRALTY SHIPYARDS FIFTEEN YEARS AGO LAUNCHED THE UNIQUE TANKER “MIKHAIL ULYANOV”

31.10.2023

Fifteen years ago, the Admiralty Shipyards (part of the USC) launched the ice-class tanker “Mikhail Ulyanov” of project P-70046.

"Mikhail Ulyanov", the first shuttle tanker of the series, is the largest built by the shipyard, and one of the largest vessels in Russia.

Admiralty Shipyards signed a contract for construction of two tankers – “Mikhail Ulyanov” and “Kirill Lavrov” - with PJSC “Sovkomflot” in 2006. The first vessel was laid down at the enterprise in June 2007, launched on October 31, 2008, and delivered to the customer in February 2010.

The unique series of shuttle tankers with a deadweight of 70 thousand tons was based on the principle of double action, according to which in ice-free water the ship moves bow first, and in ice fields – stern first.

"Mikhail Ulyanov" is designed for transportation of crude oil, petroleum products and gas condensate, with the ability to simultaneously load, transport and unload three types of cargo. The main advantages include the minimum number of crew members on board: the tanker can operate almost 24 hours unattended. A feature of the vessel is also a dynamic positioning system, the purpose of which is to keep the tanker in a stationary position for the necessary operations.
