JSC «ADMIRALTY SHIPYARDS» COMPLETED CONSTRUCTION OF A SERIES OF SIX SUBMARINES FOR RUSSIAN NAVY

SAINT-PETERSBURG, 24.11.2016.

The ceremony of raising of the Russian Navy flag onboard large diesel electric submarine «Kolpino» was held at JSC «Admiralty Shipyards». The enterprise have completed construction of a series of six submarines for Black Sea Navy Fleet of Russia by handing over the submarine to the Navy.

Commander-in-Chief of Russian Navy Vladimir Korolyov, President of JSC «United Shipbuilding Corporation» Alexey Rakhmanov and General Director of JSC «Admiralty Shipyards» Alexander Buzakov participated in the solemn ceremony.

«It is difficult to overestimate the significance of today's event for our employees, - noted Alexander Buzakov. Hoisting the flag onboard «Kolpino» signifies that the shipyards’ employees have completed construction of the series of six submarines honourably and we are pleased to realize that the Black Sea Submarine Fleet has been restored. This work became a good platform for next launch of construction of new submarine series of project 636 for Pacific Fleet».

Commander-in-Chief of Russian Navy Admiral Vladimir Korolyov called the flag raising onboard submarine «Kolpino» a milestone event for all naval forces: «JSC «Admiralty Shipyards» has constructed the ships of the world class, and we have something to be proud of. The series of six submarines with high reliability, maneuverability and modern weaponry will enable the Black Sea Fleet to meet challenges more effectively. At present Ministry of Defense pays great attention to development of conventional submarine fleet. JSC «Admiralty Shipyards» has excellent prospects in construction of latest submarines including ones powered by air independent plant».

The president of USC Alexey Rakhmanov noted the high quality of works and strict observance of the deadliness by the enterprise which was confirmed by procuring to JSC «Admiralty Shipyards» a new big order for the Pacific Fleet. Alexey Rakhmanov reminded that next year the corporation would celebrate the 10th anniversary and enters a new stage of its development with significant and obvious achievements which it intends only to improve.

Submarine «Kolpino» was laid down in October of 2014, it was lauched in May of 2016. Its construction became a watershed event in implementation of the long-term plan of Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for restoration of combat readiness of the Black Sea Fleet and the program of improvement of diesel electric submarines for Russian Navy.

By the direction of Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation CDB «Rubin» modernized main systems of the ship of basic design 636, in particular, torpedo missile system, information control system, radar and sonar systems. A number of improvements were introduced in the general ship systems for upgrading of stealthiness of the submarine and living conditions for the crew.

The series of submarines for the Black Sea Fleet have been constructed by JSC «Admiralty Shipyards» over six years, beginning from August of 2010 to November of 2016. Since 2014 the enterprise handed over to the Russian Navy two ships per year. The two first submarines of the series («Novorossiysk» and «Rostov-on-Don») were commissioned in August and December of 2014, the third and the fourth ( «Stary Oskol» and «Krasnodar») were handed over to the Black Sea Fleet in July and November of 2015 – the fifth submarine «Velikiy Novgorod» in October of 2016.

The submarines of modified 636 project have better (compared with previous projects) tactical effectiveness. The world priority of the submarines of this class in the sphere of conventional submarine shipbuilding is provided: by optimum balance of acoustic stealthiness and target detection range; latest inertial navigation complex; advanced automated control information system; powerful high-speed torpedo missile armament. JSC «Admiralty Shipyards» is an unconditional leader in construction of submarines of such class and since 1983 the enterprise successfully exported them.

In October of 2016 JSC «Admiralty Shipyards» started construction of a new series of six submarines of project 636.3 for the Pacific Fleet of Russia.
