SRV IRSPP "NORTH POLE” BUILT BY JSC “ADMIRALTY SHIPYARDS” NAMED ONE OF THE MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS OF MODERN RUSSIA

24.10.2023

The unique scientific research vessel – ice-resistant self-propelled platform (IRSPP) "North Pole” built by JSC “Admiralty Shipyards” entered the TOP 100 main achievements of modern Russia.

SRV IRSPP "North Pole” was built by the Shipyards as per the order of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring as part of the state program for social and economic development of the Arctic zone.

The vessel was laid on the 10th of April, 2019, and delivered to the Customer in August, 2022. In September 2022, the ice-resistant self-propelled platform set out on its first research expedition. The Shipyard’s warranty team was onboard the vessel for during the year. They monitored the operation of the vessel’s machinery/equipment.

"Admiralty Shipyards have always been a platform for creation of fundamentally new types of ships. The project of the comfortable drifting station developed jointly by Roshydromet and AARI became another achievement of the enterprise in construction of ships that have no analogues either in the domestic or world shipbuilding industry" commented Andrey Veselov, General Director of JSC “Admiralty Shipyards”. Our team has another, no less interesting and large-scale project ahead: construction of the new scientific and research vessel "Ivan Frolov". I am confident in its successful implementation.

SRV IRSPP "North Pole" has the R&D functionality and is designed to carry out year-round complex scientific research in the high latitudes of the Arctic Ocean. The vessel successfully performs oceanographic, acoustic, geophysical and geological observations in the Arctic Region, provides the crew and scientific staff with comfortable and safe working and living conditions at the polar station. The shape of the ice-resistant platform's hull makes it possible to accommodate the required amount of fuel to ensure two-year autonomous operation, and also optimally distribute the load from ice compression, avoiding damage.
