ON PISKAREVSKOYE MEMORIAL CEMETERY JSC “ADMIRALTEISKIE VERFI” INSTALLED A COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE AS A TRIBUTE TO MEMORY OF ITS EMPLOYEES, PERISHED DURING GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR

SAINT-PETERSBURG, on May 8, 2014 in Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery took place a solemn opening of Commemorative plaque, dedicated to employees of JSC “Admiralteiskie Verfi” who perished, defending besieged Leningrad and on fronts of Great Patriotic War. The event happened as a part of celebration of 310 th anniversary of JSC “Admiralteiskie Verfi” and it coincided with 69 th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War.

In solemn ceremony participated Director General of JSC “Admiralteiskie Verfi” Alexander Buzakov, employees and veterans of the enterprise.

“Today is a special day in the history of the enterprise, – stressed Alexander Buzakov. – 5000 our workers did not come back from battlefields and yet 3000 died from hunger, bombing, shelling during the siege.  Most of them were buried here, in Piskarevskoye cemetery. They fought for the Victory until the very last day. And their life itself was an example of great courage, heroism, patriotism and strength of mind. We want to remain the memory of generations. Our descendants should remember the deeds of the employees of the enterprise during the war, and they should be proud of the heroes, who protected and preserved our Shipyard, our city and our country. Lest we forget and hats off to them!”

Great Patriotic War and 900 days of the siege of Leningrad forever will remain a symbol of the deeds and a part of the history of JSC “Admiralteiskie verfi”. In the course of the war almost 8000 employees went to front line.

But even during the siege, when 70% of the shipyard’s employees happened to be women and teenagers, the enterprise kept on building and repairing of ships, submarines, armored boats, and it kept on turning out the products, required for front.

During Great Patriotic War the shipyard built and delivered to the Navy 7 submarines, 20 armored boats, 66 submarine chasers, 118 self-propelled flat-bottom boats which became the symbol of Leningrad’s Road of Life.

Moreover, 300 ships and submarines were repaired including cruisers “Kirov” and “Maxim Gorky” and leading destroyer “Leningrad”.

Thousands of mortars, mines, artillery shells and other munition were produced.
